SONGS

We sing a range of songs for the Winter Sing and over the course of the summer for the Summer Sings.  Usually, we select pop songs from the sixties to present day, which are uplifting and really good fun to sing and to listen to.   This choice of songs is what makes the Scratch Choir different and unique from general community choirs whose repertoire usually consists of a lot more varied world music and short pieces.

Here's a screen grab of the Winter Sing song sheet from January 2019 ...

For the Summer Sings, when you first arrive at a weekly workshop, you'll be given a Summer Sings Song Sheet.  This will have all the lyrics to the songs on it that you'll need to be a member of the Scratch Choir.

The songs for this summer are now being considered!  And when the choir is up and running, we'll be putting links up here to take you to the teach track for each one.  A teach track is exactly what it says, you'll hear your part (alto, bass, soprano or tenor) being sung so that you can practice along with it.  We make the teach track available as soon as it's been taught for one session on a Monday.  That way you've got a whole week to practice on your own so you're ready to sing next time.

Here's some examples of the sorts of songs we've sung before:
  • Movin' On Up (Primal Scream)
  • Celebration (Kool and the Gang)
  • Imagine (John Lennon)
  • Sweet Talkin' Guy (The Chiffons)
  • Happy (Pharrel Williams)
  • Sway (Dean Martin)
  • Lay Lady Lay
  • Samba Pa Ti (70's guitar classic given words by Dave King)
  • How Deep is Your Love (Bee Gees classic!)
  • I'll Stand By You (the Pretenders hit from the 80's)
  • The Bare Necessities
  • Sit Down (90's Pop Song my James)
  • Mayenziwe (African gospel)
  • Try / Stay Mashup (a complex blending of two songs from different eras of modern pop)
  • Make You Feel My Love (Adele)
  • Rule the World (Take That Classic)
  • Let It Grow (Eric Clapton)
  • Eye In The Sky (Alan Parsons Project)
  • Happy Together (the Turtles)
  • Alleluia Amen (Tony Backhouse American Gospel Piece)
  • Peace in the Valley
Whatever the songs selected this year are, we can pretty much guarantee you'll love singing them as much as the audience will love to hear them.   Can't wait to hear you belting them out!
